Pastoral Care

"I ASSURE YOU , AS OFTEN AS YOU DID IT FOR ONE OF MY LEAST BROTHERS
YOU DID IT FOR ME."

This ministry involves giving our sick/elderly or homebound parishioners and their families a sense of purpose in life, showing them that the parish cares about their well-being, that they are not alone, and that they are valued members of our parish family. This is a ministry of caring. In this ministry we recognize that the persons we serve are fully human, that they need to grow in their faith and that they have physical, emotional, social and intellectual needs.

Every person is worthy of respect and care. We want to assure the members of our parish and their family members that those who are ill/and or dying receive the care they may need. Our desire is to make helping the patient and his or her family a Positive, nurturing experience for everyone without any one person feeling overburdened.

The members of the Pastoral Care Team minister to the sick/elderly and homebound members of our parish and their families. Through their presence the Pastoral Care Team members bring the love and compassion of Christ to those they visit. They assure them that the people of our parish are concerned about them because they are valued members of our parish family. By their caring presence and attentive listening to the worries and fears of those they visit, the Team member lifts the spirits of the troubled person.

"What you do to the least of my brethren you do to me."

Below is a list of ministries under the Department of Pastoral Care:

Ministry to the Disabled

Volunteers welcome physically and mentally challenged persons to enjoy an  afternoon of fun and companionship each October. Those who attend dance the  afternoon away to music provided by a deejay and enjoy an abundance of food and  drink.

St. Vincent de Paul Society

These members minister to the needs of the poor who come seeking food and financial assistance. Each month the members meet for spiritual input and review the cases of those who have been helped.

 Ministry to Seniors

The "New Horizons of Our Lady of the Lakes Church" are the "Young at Heart" members of our parish who are 55 years of age and over. Each month they gather for fun and fellowship. They enjoy listening to a speaker on some pertinent topic. At other times they enjoy special entertainment followed by lunch. They just love being together and don't mind admitting their age. A committee of volunteers plans the monthly gatherings.

 Compassionate Caring Connection Committee

For the more than ten years the members of this group have sent greeting cards to the sick/elderly and homebound. They remember the recipients on their birthdays and holidays and throughout the year. In addition the members send condolence cards to those who are mourning the death of a loved one. This committee sends condolence cards following the death, after six months and on the year's of the death. For those who have little time to attend meetings this is an ideal ministry as there are no meetings connected with this ministry.

Alzheimer's Support Group

On the fourth Saturday of the month there is a support group for those who have a friend or family member afflicted by Alzheimer's. Someone from the Alzheimer's Association facilitates the group from 3:OO to 4:30 P.M.
